Our diverse study abroad programs vary in length from a year to a few weeks and cover timely and timeless topics such as sustainability and language learning. AFS volunteers range in age from students to seniors and share a spirit of adventure and a desire to make the world a better place. AFS Intercultural Programs began as the American Ambulance Field Service (later known as the American Field Service or AFS), a voluntary ambulance and camion (truck) organization which emerged soon after the outbreak of World War I under the leadership of A. Piatt Andrew, a former director of the U.S. Mint. AFS has launched a new suite of programs for universities, businesses and organizations across industries to ‘Global Up’ and develop essential skills, like collaboration, problem-solving, and cross-cultural communication, needed for personal, academic and professional development.
AFS programs foster transformation that lasts a lifetime. Today’s exchange students are tomorrow’s changemakers: diplomats; thought leaders; influencers in the international business and non-profit communities.
